So Defender does not detect Emsisoft...and stays running? Normally, by default, Windows will disable Defender once Windows detects a 3rd party AV.

Having 2x antivirus programs running real time at the same time is not best practice..they can step on each others toes and interfere with each other, even rendering each other rather useless. If not cause huge performance loss and other possible conflicts.
Yes I agree in an instance where Windows doesn't detect another AV or doesn't disable Defender in the presence of another AV Defender should be forcibly shutdown but make note of it and let client know so if they were to ever remove or replace the AV solution that this potential vulnerability exists.

@Computer Bloke & @sapphirescales I wouldn't try to prove that infection missed by solution A is caught by solution B but that in the overall AV world solution A or B out preforms the other in performance, system impact, invasive behavior(negative impact on user experience which is less), and security results. Going off one specific example just says well if this specific thing hits you again your safe Id rather know which is safer over all than which protects me from one specific attack. If you have your own research great but myself I tend to use the research already out there and done by others.

Some people seem to be confused about Defender still being active with a third-party antivirus. This is probably because since the Creators Update, Defender has been merged with the Windows Security Centre. The system tray icon and main window show that 'Your device is being protected' which is a little ambiguous. However, if you click on 'Virus & threat protection' it will say 'you're using other antivirus providers' if you have Emsisoft or another third-party one installed. This does NOT mean Defender is active, real time protection shows as disabled in 'Virus & threat protection settings'.

Interestingly, at the bottom of the 'Virus & threat protection' window there is a 'Windows Defender Antivirus option' allowing you to keep your current provider but also turn on periodic scanning by Defender. I presume this means Defender will perform scheduled scans, and a second opinion probably can't hurt. Note that this is turned off by default.
