Windows 8 Upgrade? yes/no. Need my yearly N&P on my main system

So, I'm running Windows 7 Ultimate and have a technet subscription so the software isn't an issue. I do a yearly N&P on my main desktop to keep things "fresh and snappy" as well a getting rid of any bloat or partially uninstalled software.

So this process needs to take place within the next week or so and here are my thoughts. I'm going to make a Disk2VHD image of my current Windows 7 install so that I can run it as a VM under the new Win 8 install.

Also, I have a 24" touchscreen which I am a little antsy to get working and try it out!

I have an 80GB Intel SSD as my system drive, which I might upgrade to something like 120-160, or run 2 120's in RAID 1.

Finally, I have two 500GB RAID 1 volumes on this current installation and I'm a little unclear as to what I have to do to ensure these arrays will work on the Windows 8 install. Any ideas on this?

Thanks in advance! All opinions are greatly appreciated!

I'd say go for it - Win8 is here and we are going to be have to become as familiar with it as XP/Vista/7. Day to day use on your own machine is the quickest way to learn I think, and like you I have been wondering whether I should upgrade soon. Having just had a clients new Win8 laptop in for data transfer from an old Vista machine, I realized that the brief play I had with the Win8 beta in the summer hadn't really prepared me for the differences, and I need to spend more time with it now. The transfer job was actually no more difficult than it would have been with Win7 of course, but I'll feel more comfortable with the UI when I've used Win8 a bit more.

I agree - run it. Like Neil I underestimated differences in 7 to 8. I now have my laptop running 7/8/Mint and all today I've run 8 as my main OS and very hard to find where and how to tweak things I can go to straight away to in 7.

Worth the experience by far though I know I'll be struggling if any serious issues come in on a clients PC till I get deeper under the skin as it were.

yeah I'm using it on the household PC. Bloody awful but I'm struggling along with it. I just cannot get over how wide of the mark it is.

Using it on home and work machines since MDSN release. Very happy with it in all respects. The lack of start menu requires a couple of minor habit changes, but that was not a big deal (hit windows key and type program name)

I reckon it's pretty cool actually :)

Upgraded the kitchen computer tonight. I'm OK with it. More relevant though, is that the wife seems to be pretty happy about it. We're also going to upgrade the check-in/reception station to give it some exposure to customers. Might have the added benefit of prompting people to hire us to upgrade them.
