Windows 8 Metro Problem / Starting-up

Hello there,

I've just got a Windows 8 HP G6 laptop in for repair with this problem:

Laptop starts up to the metro interface and goes crazy.

Anyone know a fix?

Have you run any diags to make sure its not something to do with say keboard or ram issues ?

When I managed to get it to boot into safe mode everything works fine.

I've not ran a memtest yet, hard drive checks out fine.

Since you can get to Safe Mode try a system restore from the command line.

Is it possible that one of the thumbs.db is corrupt? just a thought...

I've tried going back to the last restore point and the earliest I could and its still the same. Can't refresh over the top. Its very much looking like a reinstall.

It is interesting it works fine in safe mode. If you can get back in there can you try to disable anything that looks unique at startup ? Could be the customer added something like Start8 and its gone bonkers.

I've taken everything out from the start-up and services using autoruns.

I too just Googled this and there is little out there in cyberland. You are a pioneer!

Since a restore and refresh didn't work you're right about a reset. I hate having to reinstall the OS but you are on virgin ground here. We might have to name this anomaly after you!

At least you can save their data in safe mode before you nuke it. Keep us posted about the outcome. Good luck, man.
