Hi Guys

This is seriously starting to annoy me, I have done maybe 30 win 7 machines since oct, and all ok, but in the last 2 weeks, 3, YES 3 people have called back saying that either when the machine is left, for say 10 mins, or after it sleeps after 30, when you go to wake it, nothing?

Moving mouse etc, nothing happens, and it just shows a black screen. its like its on, but not responding

I found a hotfix, but it seems this was already applied in a previous update.

1 machine was a NEW DELL with win 7 already on it, and the other 2 were new installs on existing machines.

Does anyone know what could be causing this

BTW i have now to a clean install on one of the other machines, and all updates, office, updates and left it,.... voila same thing!

Im getting annoyed now, cheers if you can help:o

I did have something like this but I'd be surprised if it was for the same reason as your problems.

Mine turned out to be that Windows, for some odd reason, changed the video output port. So video was being outputted to another socket on the video card.

I could understand that on 1 mahcine, but not 3, (all different)

I have updated drivers on one, no diffrence

will also try

The buggy issues came from two words... HYBRID SLEEP

you can see the where from :
- Control Panel > Hardware and Sound >Power Options > Edit Plan Settings
- Open the "Sleep" tree > Open the "Allow Hybrid Sleep" tree and choose "OFF"

So far after turning this one off i've had succesful return with no hangs (both display off and sleep off with 1 and 2 minutes respectively), i will increase the time to see if the issue is time related or indeed because of this... Hybrid Sleep option thingie...
(found on another forum)

Do you not have the same options, in advanced power settings?

FYI. disabling the Hybrid mode DID work on one of the machines, but not the other

I wrote a blog post about this today.

You “Asked Us” Why Does Windows 7 Freeze & Move Slowly?

Verify that "Auto-hide the taskbar" option IS NOT enabled. This is a known bug for which Microsoft has not released a patch to fix. Expect that they won't until Windows 7 SP1 comes out.

In the meantime, if "Auto-hide" is turned on and "blank the screen after __" option is turned on then the system will run slowly and/or freeze. Reinstalling, rebooting, and other fixes you mentioned will not fix this. Only disabling the "Auto-hide the taskbar" option will.

I've used this on client systems that otherwise checked out fine (ie, now hardware issues, no memory issues, no software incompatibilities, no virus/malware, etc). After doing this the computer & software ran speedy!

My Windows 7 keeps going to sleep but wakes up as expected when I push the power button. It often happens very soon after a boot. No idea why yet.

Hi Rain Maker

I will try that, although on one mahcine I have reinstalled system TWICE now, and will all updates, leave it for a few hours and it will sleep and not wake up

I dont think by default Auto hide taskbar is enabled, but will check

Really buggin me now, wonder if its a glitch with Dells (2 were inspiron 570's)
