Windows 10 Technical Preview "Download"

Microsoft accepted me as part of its "insider program", and gave me a ISO link plus a product key (which the install didn't ask for).

I tried virtualbox, but it refused to install giving me memory error messages. Interestingly, my machine refused to boot afterwards at all, a safe mode boot fixed this.

I tried the ISO with VMware, and it installed without issue, well, the install needs an Ethernet driver at the moment to get online, but at least it runs.

Interestingly, it didn't ask me to create a Microsoft account, I just entered express and username "rob"

I'm liking VMware workstation 10, and may buy it.

Edit.
Got a big inland revenue fine for late submission of accounts, which was double what I expected. So VMware purchase will have to wait [emoji20]

How odd! I used "insider program" within hr of it being available and got no product key and did not need one, used express settings yet had to create Microsoft account.
Using VMware workstation 10.

Bertie they are nearing release of VMware workstation 11 in December you may wanna hold on though they are offering free upgrades if purchased now.
I am a big fan been using since version 7

installed onto 4.3.12 in 8.1 64 bit config without problems, well apart from being bog slow on my laptop O-)

doesn't sound like a fix...

more of a work around. seems to have plagued many users with VB. Regardless it is working just fine now. That is good with me. Just using it to Test Drive Windows 10.

About the only thing that really stands out as useful to me is the CTRL+V option in CMD and PowerShell. After using 8.1 for so long I don't have much use for the start menu.

A small side point. I've read that as part of the install agreement, you give permission for Microsoft to extract and use just about everything for research, just stopping short of ripping off your shoe size and a grabbing a sample of your bodily fluids.

So beware.

oh they don't require the first born any more?

Is it really that different to 8.1??

I do like the semi-return of the program list/ start menu..... What am I missing here??

Think I will be staying with windows 7 for much longer. More of the same - I dont care about apps, disliked this from the start. If I want apps I will use my smartphone.

CTRL + C and V in CMD was always available in windows 7. I despise the start menu, why complicate things when they are not borked as in Win7 Start Menu.

I have only been using the tech preview for about 3 days now but...I don't see how it differs that much from 8 or 8.1. It still looks like a charms/apps based model that has a 'start' menu thrown in as an afterthought to pacify us 7 diehards who want the real start menu back. I don't know that this is going to be a big enough 'correction' to win back a lot of people who hate 8.

I am using it as a VM (virtualbox) on a touchscreen AIO HP. The touch feature is incredibly iffy. You have to try multiple times to get it to respond to screen taps if it works at all. Of course, this might just be a product of it being set up as a VM so I can't really say for sure if that's an issue with it or just a result of being a VM.

I have it running on an extra ssd drive in a dual boot. For a preview I think it is very good but no matter what I think I need to have it on and learn it inside and out. We will be supporting it so the day it is released we are able to provide the service our clients expect. Lol it can't be worse than when we had to support Vista

I've been running the tech preview in Virtual Box for a few weeks now, and so far am pretty happy with it. It's better than Windows 8 I'll definitely say that! I'm glad to see its a step in the right direction!

I have been a huge fan of Windows 10 Technical Preview, all the way up to build 9879, then it shat itself. I have to do hard reboots or remote reboots daily. Also locking up when running VMware Workstation on it. I'm hoping the next build smooths these things out.

Tried loading it up on my main workhorse-

Yes, I know... don't do that. See, I was already overhauling this piece and tossing in a new SSD so I figured I'd toss W10 on first to see how it went. Long story short, it didn't.

I wasn't able to find a lot of drivers (which didn't surprise me), and while I liked the interface, it seemed like it was only designed for widescreen monitors (I'm still using 3 4:3's, lol). The deal breaker for me was when I tried installing TeamViewer. The install started up just fine, but when it got to the very end it just stopped and never completed. Same thing happened whether I was installing the standard version, or the TakeControl version.

Since I can't function without TeamViewer I just scrapped the install and went back to migrating all my old data over to a fresh install of 7. Maybe I'll try W10 on a spare laptop or something later on.
