Windows 10 Automatic Upgrades Hit Windows 7 And Windows 8

I've installed GWX Control Panel on many clients' computers. I'm wondering though - when there's a new update to that program, does it update itself? If the client has to do anything, I'm pretty sure it won't get updated.
Worst case - client unintentionally ends up with Windows 10, after I installed the software that is supposed to prevent them from getting Windows 10.

Worst case - client unintentionally ends up with Windows 10, after I installed the software that is supposed to prevent them from getting Windows 10.

The latest version to GWX Control panel does offering Monitoring to help protect against that.

Yes, I have monitoring turned on.
My concern is that as Microsoft becomes more and more aggressive with pushing Windows 10 onto unsuspecting users, they will most likely be looking for ways to circumvent the methods of blocking it, and GWX Control Panel is one of the primary tools for this. So I'm sure GWX CP will need to be updated to counteract MS. I just was wondering if GWX CP is automatically updated or if the user needs to take some action. I'm going to contact the developer directly to check on this and I'll report back.

Ahh good question! I know the developer is constantly working on it and releasing new updates, but whether it auto updates is another thing.

On the developer's website, there is no contact information that I can see. I'm sure he has been overwhelmed with messages and questions since he first came out with this.

With all the issues with this upgrade, you would think they would be working on ALL the bugs before they did this.

It would be nice, but at this point problems with consumer computers don't really affect Microsoft nor cost them anything.

Currently MS' big rallying cry is nothing more than to tout how many installations of W10 there are at any given time. So they are taking all the steps they can to increase installations over the preferences of users. As if the number of installations is actually an indication the popularity of W10.

Got this from the creator of GWX Control Panel, Josh Mayfield:
Hello Scott, the program doesn't check for updates automatically. There are "check for updates" options in the right-click menus of both the Monitor Mode icon and the regular mode's title bar that tell you your current version and link you to the downloads page. I will most likely automate the update process a bit more in a future release, though. (I don't like programs that update themselves without asking, but I might work in a monitor mode notification when new versions are available and an automatic download/install if you explicitly request one.

It does not auto update. But I would make sure that you tell your clients that Microsoft can change how they offer updates and break it again.
