Hi folks,
Trying to update and upgrade to Win 10 either one gives a showstopper: Unsupported hardware .
Ryzen 5 1600 definitely listed as a qualifying processor for Win 10 - https://learn.microsoft.com/en-us/w...pported-amd-processors?source=recommendations
BIOS updated to the latest version.
DISM and SFC /SCANNOW cleared up all corruptions .
Brand new SSD or HDD, no difference.
Memtest passed.
Windows update troubleshooter, no help.
Could it be complaining about the GPU instead? - Radeon RX 460 add-on card.

Just to be clear. It's a 64 bit machine? You are trying to do an inplace upgrade from W8.1 Pro to W10Pro. The Window says your current version of OS, W8.1 Pro, doesn't support that processor. Which I've seen happen before. From what I've seen real upgrades will not happen when incompatible hardware is detected. The link below shows that the existing processor, Ryzen 5 1600 is only support with W10, RHEL, and Ubuntu.

So your only path will be a clean install. One possibility would be to image the drive, pop it into another machine that is compatible with W8.1, upgrade that, then move it back to the original patient. It's not the RX 460 since it's compatible with 8.1

Yeah... I don't even bother with machines that old anymore. Clients that have them get refurbs that can Win11.

And when I did upgrade machines in that age bracket, I'd pull the CD key with a tool and install Win10 fresh.

If you insist on doing the upgrade, try Win10 1803, 1809 introduced a ton of drivers that causes fits, if you can get it to 1803, you can likely upgrade from there to 21H2.

The graphics card was the problem.
I tried using 1809 and that complained that the Radeon RX 460 was not compatible with Win 10 and there may be some problems.
Went ahead anyway and everything went perfectly smoothly. No hiccup anywhere even upgrading to 21H2.
Amazing! :oops::rolleyes:

Well, I've warned him about the potential issue, even kept the install warning screenshot on his computer and showed it to him and he said he'd keep me posted on events. No surprises :cool:
