Hi, this one is driving me nuts, have a win 7 home pre 64 bit machine that was very infected, I cleaned it all up and it keeps hanging on the blue windows 7 welcome screen on boot for like 5 mins. once it gets to the desktop its fine. I have run all hardware tests and booted to safe mode and disabled everything except known startups and imported default services. I booted to erd and tried to run sfc but got pending update issue so I deleted the pending.xml file, also sfc run from within windows at cmd stops at 21% with a Windows Resource Protection could not perform the requested operation error. Ideas?

Boot logging still doesnt have time stamps per line right?

Sync the computers time to your watch or something. Make note of what time exactly you see the windows logo, look at the hd activity light make note of times when theres no activity. Compare to windows event logs.....im assuming you already checked for timeouts or any other warning/errors?

ok, heres the log, it hung at about 8:20, any insight would help, I'm terrible at deciphering these things!

Uninstall microsoft security essentials, once you do that check its folder (if its still there) in program files / program files 86 to confirm you have access to all the subfolders and not some ghetto symlink from zero access. go ahead and check the windows defender folder too.

Do this, reboot, get the logs posted again.

By chance did you install the updates from last week? Update KB2859537 is causing issues on a few machines. If that is installed you may try removing it as well.

Ah, I just love wasting my time, I ran full hardware scans prior and somehow the hard drive passed it! I ran the Dell diagnostics and the drive is trash,!
