A customer brought me an acer laptop, new in the box. Wanted me to decrapify it and put ccleaner etc on there.

So I decrapified it, installed some proggies, restarted many times, no problems, went to do some windows updates, there were about 20 or so, and rebooted no problem, went back to check if there were any more updates, and sure enough there were 3, one that had to do with the wireless mouse i was using on the laptop and the other two were for .net stuff.

I rebooted the computer and now I am getting this bsod (0x000000f4), I cant get into safe mode or anything...what did i do??

sounds like one of the updates does not like that computer.. anyway you can go back and do a windows restore to a point before the updates where done?

At the risk of me being slammed for being harsh... here we go.

You dont mention if you googled this issue nor tried to fix anything.

"What did I do" , well you must have done something wrong. What have you tried to diagnose it so far?.

At least have you tried something like this ?:

http://social.answers.microsoft.com...r/thread/d4412a48-1880-441e-92be-a3fa7176dee0

and there are tons of things for googling "0x000000f4 windows 7"

I understand you not wanting to sound harsh,
yes i did google this issue, came up with a bunch of different things with nothing very explicit. Everything seemed to be related to windows xp besides, every suggestion that i found, now I have not done 4 hours of research on this, but it seems like there are solutions, but you have to be in Windows to get them to work!

I cant do a system restore, because it says that I must always do a restore on the drive that contains windows, it shows me restore points but wont let me get past that. It also says that I must enable system protection on this drive...

I cant boot into safe mode
UBCD4WIN gives me another BSOD all together when I try it.
I can get into HIRENS MINI XP but it wont let me hardly do anything.
I have tried auto startup repair, nothing.

any ideas?

Well you said it was a brand new computer. I assume the client does not have anything installed or anything of importance? Guess you could restore the unit to factory settings and start over...

yea i guess thats what I am going to have to do, I am going to try a system restore from the windows disk and not the startup repair manager. I just dont want this guy doing a windows update and then bringing this thing back to me telling me i messed it up.

Do you have Win7 recovery disks you can boot off ?. If not check this out (It think its still functional):

http://neosmart.net/blog/2009/windows-7-system-repair-discs/

Pretty sure that will allow a recovery/repair session which should let you use the restore points if they are valid.

Well I am using a windows 7 disk, i made it into a master, and when i boot to it, it tells me that the system recovery options are not available with this version of windows

You need to make sure that the repair disc you are using is the same as the computer. Need to make sure you are using a 32bit repair disc for windows 7 32bit or a 64bit repair disc for windows 7 64bit

Bad memory..... bad hard drive.... bad computer...... get a hammer.. that always works....

Why didn't you just uninstall the last few update? When windows gives you a BSOD after an update and will not boot then boot from a windows CD to the recovery console and find the last updates and uninstall them. If you've never done this before the updates keep their uninstalls in hidden folders under the windows folder, most of them will have names like $NtUninstallKB908519$ or something like that, open the folders and you will see a folder named spuninst in that folder will be the uninstall program for that update. If you need more details just Google spuninst

Where at in the recovery console can you view recent windows updates?

Is this what you see when you get the RC ?

I've had to do this in XP and not in 7 but in it XP you just load the recover console and look at the dates and time of the updates and uninstall the latest ones. Wouldn't an XP disc give you access to a 7 installation?

May you could have used a XP disc to uninstall the updates, I'm not sure.

This article explains you how to uninstall a Microsoft hotfix installed using Windows Update site or through Automatic Updates. This procedure is useful in scenarios where installation of a recent update prevents you from loading Windows XP in any startup modes (including Safe Mode Command Prompt, Safe Mode etc).
