[BUG] Win 10 Search Broken

Windows 10 search results are sometimes coming up blank due to an integration of Bing.

There is a registry fix in the story.

Just had that happen a few minutes ago on a Win10 upgrade in place. Removed Bing in Programs and Features and adjusted the registry. All good now.

And, if you are someone like me, who almost exclusively searches based on file name, consider using the Everything Search by voidtools. It's faster, by far, than Windows search and has a feather light footprint.

I use Windows Search once in a blue moon when I have forgotten a file name but remember (or think I remember) some distinctive phrase contained in the file. I nuked web results on my machines in the very early days of Windows 10 and, miraculously, that choice has been maintained through all the feature updates so far.

I use Windows search quite frequently as it's quick to many utilities. But, Windows file search through File Explorer is dismal. Pretty much the worst.

This actually happened to me yesterday around the time you posted it. I simply killed the "Cortana" process in task manager, it re-started it self, and resolved the issue.

I was a bit freaked out when it initially happened , I use that search for everything lol
