This seems like it should be a simple problem to solve. My client just wants to log in to the newspaper site that she has logged into for years (www.courant.com).

Now, when she clicks "Log in" she enters her email address and password, and this window pops up. How do we just get Google completely out of the picture so that she can log in to the site without Google being involved or her accounts being "linked" in any way?

This is what I see on that site when I click their Sign In link:

If she's got an account with them, she should be able to simply log in. Have you flushed cookies to see if there's one preventing the regular sign-in option?

Yes, the image you posted is what she sees first (after I have cleared all cookies and history). The image I posted is what she sees after she signs in with her email and password.

I think it is important to note that this is not a function of Google, rather, it is a function of the Website.

^^^ This...
Google isn't doing anything. The website she is trying to log into is presenting that option.
If she did indeed log into it once using her Google credentials then it has 'remembered' this and is trying to be helpful.

She Linked her account to Google+. To log in she must use Google. The only way for this to happen is for her to have done so directly and deliberately.

And it is easy to do. I was already signed into Google with my calendar so all I had to do was hit the G+ icon click yes a couple of times and I was in. Now in the future should I visit the site if I am not logged into Google or Goolgle+ doing so will automatically log me into that site.

This isn't a problem. It is a benefit.

I'm using Google web browser and when I clicked that link it took me directly to the web page.

I see that you've cleared cookies and history and some have offered other ideas but how about "re-setting the browser to it's defaults settings?" I've had to do that a few times in the past to get unwanted screens to go away.

...just my 2 cents
