Im not sure if this is the right place to post this so sorry if its not.

Ive been looking at various suppliers recently and in all honesty I can say eBay sellers have the cheapest prices 99% of the time (the ebay stores). I mean it makes sense because they are probably main suppliers and use ebay to cut costs and supply directly.

Im curious though, who here can say they use ebay for most things e.g. RAM, laptop screens etc

thanks.

For one-off items that I need (laptop screens, batteries, etc) ebay is nice. For items that I go through quickly (software, RAM) I tend to stick with amazon or newegg.

Ebay is usually my first stop for anything I can't get locally. I filter for top rated sellers on my continent, "buy it now". I don't buy from anyone with less than a 98% rating across a great many transactions. I use Paypal and never pay them directly.

Typically get decent pricing and reasonably quick shipping. Problems are very rare.

Amazon is my first stop, as I have amazon prime shipping. Next stop is usually eBay, and like others have said, its usually fast shipping and no issues.

I agree... now when it comes to used motherboards, I stay away from eBay sellers on the most part (unless they consistently sell a lot of them). I've been burned too many times.

I use Newegg for the most part and have a Frys store about 4 miles away. Bought a 500gb laptop hard drive the other day at Frys... my receipt says $96.96, surprisingly, at Newegg the same drive would have cost me about $150 with shipping.
Recently purchased 24gb of DDR3 triple channel memory for one of my computers and it ran $70 with the rebate at Frys.
A lot of times I get next-day delivery on my orders through Newegg... just depends on what time of the day I put in my order (then again, I only live 80 miles away from their main LA area office).

I use Ebay regularly. Laptop screens, RAM, Video Cards; you name it, I have bought it from Ebay sellers. As MRaikes said - top rated sellers in north america and buy it now filters.

I also build computers to sell... and you can get some SMOKING deals if you watch patiently, bid auctions wisely, and do your due diligence on planning & parts.

I recently got a $160.00 mobo for $12.74, a core2 quad for $40.00, 8 gb ram, a new thermaltake case, a used antec power supply and a lightscribe DVD burner for just over $140.00 total. With a hard drive I have on hand, it is going to be a profitable computer to sell.

I have had a couple of problems with sellers...but Ebay is pretty good with their "buyer protection" and things have been made right promptly. Check seller ratings and feedback - only deal with very highly rated sellers.

I use ebay on a few items but not overall. I do not like their customer service. I agree with the others I stick with Amazon and Newegg. I also use MicroCenter which is not too far from me and local computer shops.

We do a lot of screen & keyboard replacements on ebay. For the screen replacements I try to keep buying from the same vendors due to their fast shipping and suprisingly good customer service. ScreenAid & lcdtech889 have been great. I replace abuot 6 or 7 screens a week and have only had a few in the last year that had an issue. When I have a problem I just order a replacement and they will refund me when they receive the defective one with no hastle.

I live in the UK so new egg is not an option. In regards to ebay I primarily meant buy it now prices from vendors that sell lots of them and that is their primary business. I would not buy from fly by nighters.

I'm still trying to find a decent local supplier that I can build bonds with but to no avail yet.

In the UK a lot depends on delivery charges and how soon you need the stock:

Obviously Amazon are well priced with free delivery if you don't mind a wait, Ebuyer are good but postage can be high (free if more than £50). For RAM and small items - CCL Computers often have free 1st class delivery with good prices.

Tend not to use Ebay as too many cowboys, counterfeits and returns policies that aren't worth the hassle, often higher priced than the online shops too. Although I could see Ebay being the only/best option for hard to find screens/keyboards etc

Use ebay for most laptop parts - screens, batteries, chargers.

Just make sure the seller is in the same country and has a good rep.

I use scan for all my other stuff. Free delivery and next day to :)

ebay for screens

Screenaid is pretty good and fast with shipping

ebay amazon newegg and local stores for emergency situations

paying the extra for prime and others help alot

I have been using outletpc for my parts. I do not have a "Legal" business meaning I do not have a tax ID or a license yet. So I cant get the better prices I am just doing it on the side for now hoping i can make enough to quit my real job HA!

I am curious though most of you go to ebay for cheap parts... Do you guys think a site like ebay would take off if it was an auction site JUST for computer related items?

for one off parts for laptops I always use ebay.

I often find a new vendor through ebay and sometimes go directly to that laptop vendor.

As for workstations I get nearly all my stuff from evertek which requires a resellers tax permit and an account. You have to buy with debit or credit card. They do not do one offs or below $300 so by in quantities and save big.

Geeks is their sister company that sells one offs for a buck or two more and sometimes offers free shipping so its possible they are cheaper for one or two items.

I even buy refurbished and sometimes new HP, Dells and compaqs both workstation and laptops.

i think the price of items will be cheaper in china , so you can search some su plier of china

That's ok if you can wait 2 weeks for delivery. If your doing a repair i don't think the customer is going to wait that long just to save a couple of £'s or $'s

I use ebay a lot for laptop batteries, LCD screen cables, motherboards, lasers and DVD drives for playstation and xbox's etc.
Not had much problem except when one of the screen cables I ordered didn't work properly and it's replacement was the same and they were new. ( See my post last month.).
I've had a few good deals on laptops also, sold by people who hadn't a clue.
"My laptop died so i'm selling it as faulty".
-Got 2 like that and all that was wrong was the power adapter wasn't working. :D

I use Ebay a lot for items like motherboards and laptop parts. I'm in Australia so I'd prefer to buy from an Australian supplier, but some things just aren't available locally.
I've bought plenty of things from Hong Kong and China though, but only from suppliers with a good reputation and large volume. If it's urgent, I can usually find a supplier with a fast shipping option for a few dollars more. In that case it would take 3 to 5 days. Normal shipping takes 10 to 20.
Sometimes the customer is happy to wait a bit longer. A recent case... HP wanted $434.01 for a dv6 laptop screen (the one cent really amused me :) ). The identical screen from China cost $85.00, so Mum was happy to wait a couple of weeks to get her daughter's laptop repaired.
Rarely buy from the USA, because US sellers regularly have outrageously high shipping charges.

In the UK we get hit with huge costs in regards to importing. 20% VAT, Import duty it can end up costing half as much again.
