What wireless routers are you using for residential and small businesses? I have used Linksys in the past but they seem to need resetting to often, I need something reliable and inexpensive. Any suggestions?

For residential, I really like the Belkins and DLink. Cheap, reliable, and pretty decent range. It depends on the size and needs of the business. On the high end, I like Cisco, DLink for the low to mid range.

Engenius brand works better than anything else I have ever tried. Even better than Cisco and other commercial brands. These things just work and work and work... You get my drift? They are cheap too! They also do WDS and that's what I use them the most for. They have indoor and outdoor models. I always just buy the outdoor models cause they mount just about anywhere. If you just want one or two thaen you can get them on tigerdirect. When you get ready for quantity I can hook you up with a vendor.

I recently installed one of the Engenius outdoor routers and seemed to have a few problems, but could have been due to the user. I think I will order one of the indoor models and give it a try, maybe a Dlink also to do a comparison. Thanks for the responses.

A bit expensive for most residential users, but Draytek Vigor routers are an excellent coice for SMEs.

NetGear WPN-824. Don't EVER user their CDs to set up a router. The CDs are horrible. Just use the IP Address on the bottom of the router and the web-based interface.

The WPN-824 has 7 internal antennas and will blow away any other signal in the area.

I love netgear. They just plain work. No bs. Only thing I don't like is they have been making their routers with non removable antennas.

Linksys WRT54GL with Tomato firmware has never let me down. Just plug it in and configure it through the web interface, and the ability to change the antennas adds flexability to where you install the unit.

Thats my brand! I always go web-based set-up. The WPN-824 is pretty rock solid except they are good for one really weird freek-out in their lifetime where a soft reset doesn't even think about fixing. I've seen it happen to a couple with varying symptoms. But a hard reset usually straightens them right out. It even has the handy little feature in the web-interface to backup the settings to a .cfg file. With that a hard reset literally takes about 2 minutes and its back in business with settings restored and all!

Other than that with the previous firmware there was a bug when setting up ACLs it would only show the most recent MAC address you entered, but otherwise the ACL worked as it should. But the current firmware upgrade has addressed that issue.
