... I'm surprised that WPS is getting no votes. It is a free drop-in alternative for MS Office. It looks and acts identical to older versions of MS Office...

I used to be big proponent of Kingsoft (former name for WPS) because a) it had a paid version, but you could use it's free version as long as you wanted, b) worked really well, and c) supported both the ribbon GUI and the old GUI used by 2003 (some of my older customer didn't like the ribbon). However, after WPS took them over, they still have a free version but there's continuing pop-ups about purchasing it. Plus, with the latest version, after a period of time not using the paid version, you have to click "I dont want to update" EVERY TIME you start the program. That's too much hassle.

I alternate between Open Office and Libre Office now.

MS Office both work and personal. Work-wise I'm still fighting the battle of Office365 for clients - particularly because we have a couple that have been on Office2007 and are now at a point of must upgrade. O365 may also become more appealing because we have 2 good-size customers who are looking at hospital buyouts within the next year or two and a third that I know has had at least a few conversations with a large medical group (looking at their news feed it looks like they added 15-20 doctors in September alone, and they have >75 locations).

Personally I'm using Office365 in part because of the OneDrive storage - half the price of Dropbox, and you get Word, Excel, etc. along with it!

I service business clients and for the most part everyone is on O365. So they're running Office 2016 Pro. Some clients have older versions of QuickBooks or other software and are still on 2013.... but I do have a few clients who are having slow years and are still on 2010 until they can afford the upgrade. I get the MS Action Pack every year and run Server 2016 in the office, Windows 10 on all systems, and utilize the Azure credits and Office 2016 keys.

I realize I'm in a very affluent area of the world, but for me... if a client is operating in the business space and isn't able to afford Office for each of their employees... well they can't afford me either. There are a lot of people who thought that Office just came with Windows for free and get sticker shock when they see the price.

Bing bing bing bing bing! On the Enterprise plans side if you have terminal servers you're most likely looking at $12 or $20/user/month from Microsoft, pretty much depending on whether you want email or not. If you have no terminal servers and are less than 300 users, you're at $8.25 or $12.50. One thing in common for almost all those numbers: If you have someone working a white-collar job in an office actually using the Office programs, they're probably all less than or close to 1/160th of your monthly cost for that employee - aka, they cost the same as or less than one hour of a fulltime employee's work per month, or at most 12.5 cents per hour per employee.

The problem arises when you have people focused on squeezing every last penny. I have literally wasted > an hour in a meeting where someone was trying to negotiate a price down by less than 5 cents a seat per month, for less than 500 seats. I was ready to kill someone by the time we were done, and if I'd had any cash on me I would have slapped a twenty on the table and yelled, "Here! I will pay the g*****n $20 a month that you're wasting all of our time over!"
