Which is the best one for you??
Mitac, Acer, Sony, LG, Packard Bell or other (I don't remember more)...

Ignore the main title, I don't know why it entered that.

MiTAC's my aging laptop - but it's still of high quality, even though it's 6 years old. Everything is in perfect condition.

Unfortunatly Alienware is very expensive for what they are. Sure they look cool, but you can get the same specifications (or a little better) and put it in a cool case and you would have saved a bundle.

Heck, the components are more or less the same, and you can get them cheaper than usual. Sometimes you can get high quality parts for half as much money (q.v. people suggesting DFI LanParty MBOs, which are extremely good, but a Gigabyte K8N-series might do just as well for at least half of the computers).

If you want a cool case, find someone who has a power drill, a power sander and knows their way around aluminium and/or plexiglass. It's cheaper and can yield much better results.

I'm not sure, as to I only buy computers every few years. (Fully that is.)

The computer I'm using now is an HP, I built it through them, and it's actually very nice. They're customer service is good, and the computer is perfect. The only times I've ever had problems with it, it was my fault, haha.

The only thing bad about it is, they block the core files of the registry and such to protect from users doing something dumb.

Though I can get around that.

In Canada, I like MDG. They have good prices, good computers, and the support is good. I could buy a computer there for the same price of building one.

I used to hate Dells becuase I only played with the consumer models but the more recent Optiplex and Latitudes are very nice. Yeah outsourced Tech support unless you buy thier service plans. Bottom line is they most all fail just as much as the other now I think perhaps the parts manufacturers have become more on par with each other then that the PC manufacturers have.

Everyone seems to have their own opinion. I personally have had a lot of luck with Acers lately. Solid laptops for good prices.

I haven't looked at Acers in a while and I like thier LCDs well enough but thier laptops I hated when I was lookin at them about 2 years ago.

Build Them

I have had lucky with Dells and Acer, but I still prefer to custom build all my personal computers. It's just fun. I like to spec out the best prices and see how much bang I can get for my buck.

Joke? I've had nothing but luck with MDGs with any of my customers. Even a family member bought one and it had a very cheap PSU in it, can't remember the brand at this time, but it almost caught fire.

I don't nor have i ever owned a laptop but for desktops eMachines has done me justice for years i own 2 desktops one new and one almost 7 years old still working fine, i also have an old Gateway PC which is okay but for my next computer i want to build me one as i am getting tired of having to deal with companies and sucky support + their lies.

I always use Acers myself, when supplying both laptops and desktops to my customers. I would use Dell if it wasn't for the fact they use their own components.

In my experience, the majority of machines that come in with a blown power supply and motherboard are eMachines :\ Do you live in the UK youngwun0, or do eMachines operate in other countries aswell?

No i am in the US so i know they operate here as well :)

Never had to replace the power supply nor the motherboard on either of my eMachine PC's not even the 7 year old one (knock on wood) :D

The first PC I actually bought myself was infact a gateway 733 p3. I just took everything I could salvage from the box about 2 weeks ago... Just sitting there is the empty shell....Well it still has the mobo and power supply... might make a nice linux box....LOL

Old parts come in handy if someone has an older system they need fixed on the cheap...LOL

I have 635 Dell workstations, 35 Dell laptops, and 14 Dell servers on my day job. I have no problems recommending Dell to anyone. Really, you can't build a basic Internet and email machine cheaper than the Dell $500.00 deal that includes PC, Flat Panel, and usually a multifunction printer. Sure they have had a few bumps in the road, namely the 270 caps and laptop batteries but they were very quick in resolving the problems.

It is also a very good opportunity to setup a maintenance and support plan since you probably speak the buyers native language
