Hello

I'm in talks with web designers to give my site www.cumbriacomputerrepairs.co.uk a make over. i have a few options I think I should do

  • Remove the scroll bar on the right hand side on content.
  • Remove Twitter Feed (good, but cant do special offers just for twitter).
  • Make it fit the screen correctly.
  • Add more content on services on sub pages

What would you change on the site if it was yours.

All feedback will be take greatly and I will not be offended in any way.

1) The "text only" link on the left does not work, it takes me to an error 404 page. I would eliminate it all together as it is a big distraction anyway.

2) The two biggest words on the home page in terms of size are "Home Page" and "AVG". The circular company logo is good but the company name is lost on the page, too small and hard to read. The company name is THE most important thing and needs to pop, along with what the company does.

3) Add a copyright notice in the footer.

4) For the headings giving what the company offers in terms of services I would capitalize each word on each of the headings: "Computer viruses removed" becomes "Computer Viruses Removed".

5) I am not a big fan of grey color themes in general, they appear dull. I would go with something more colorful and vibrant.

6) I am also not a big fan of color gradients on websites, sometimes they work well if used sparingly.

The white background on the site is nice and clean, I would keep that.

The gradient in the header gives the header a washed out look, and the diagonal line effect is distracting attention away from other items/information in the header area.

The blue to white gradient in the pages body/content area adds color to the grey page but again results in a washed out look. Even though the gradient is colorful I think the page would be less cluttered and more readable with out it. It's a distraction.

The light-grey to medium-grey gradient in the footer area again results in a washed out look. The text in the footer is also a darker grey so there is not much contrast, resulting in text that is not as readable as it could be.

7) The big "Home Page" header is a little redundant and distracting to the sites message, as the left side navigation menu has the "Home Page" menu option highlighted.

Hope this helps. ;)
