What do you guys recommend when installing WiFi solutions in homes that are a little too big for a basic WiFi router / access point?
My favorite for the past few years has been a solution using two or more APs from Ubiquiti like the UniFi AP AC Pro. They’re really solid and the clients don’t mess them up. The biggest drawback is that they need a wired backbone, so if there is no existing Ethernet or no super simple way to get it there.
Going to see an existing customer tomorrow about WiFi issues. It’s a pretty decent sized house and they currently have a crappy modem router combo with their AT&T U-verse Internet. It’s an older home and I have no idea what it would cost to run wires. I do little to no wiring and would have to call in someone else for that.
So I picked up a Netgear Orbi mesh kit at Costco just now. It includes their router and two satellites. It’s gotten really good reviews and I like the design of the system. It uses a dedicated wireless back-haul channel. I’m OK with that. I don’t like any other style wireless extender where it rebroadcasts on shared channels.
Anyway, anyone worked with these yet? Any other recommendations?
