A customer messaged me this and asked what kind of disc that is and where to buy it. They use them for putting certain documents on disc for customers from what he said. I've never seen such a disc before that I remember. Anyone know the name of these?

Just a standard CD that's been cut down.
Any tray loading optical drive, that has the inner ring for the smaller discs will read it as normal.
They were more for promotional stuff, from what we ever saw of them, as they only hold about 100MB from memory.

That's pretty much what I thought but I thought maybe there was some oddball technology old school that I didn't know of.

Thank you. He also said they got them from amazon...I've not found anything though.

Those are "wallet" or "envelope" sized CD's. But I'm not why someone would put them in a wallet or envelope though. I remember seeing something similar years ago around the time slot load cd's started coming out, especially on the iMacs. They were smaller diameter CD's. And they would not eject properly in the slot loads. LOL!!!

I have one here that has a Spiderman movie on it. I'm not sure but I think they hold a bit more than 100MB?
I'll dig it out and check. :D

I used to have a few of those, maybe even RW versions.... been a while. They were convenient for some things because you could throw something like Puppy Linux on with no problems and they didn't take much space. Beyond the simple smaller size round ones you could find various shapes like the first picture or even triangles, etc. As long as they were symmetrical and balanced for spin they'd be just fine, but I think the increase in slot-loading drives killed them off.

Hello 1999. There are these things called USB keys and a service called Dropbox....

LOL Over the summer I got a call on the weekend from an office manager looking for advice. They were getting rid of an old PC and her daughter was copying tons of old pictures, etc. to CD and it was taking forever. I suggested that she run out and pick up a 16GB drive for probably $10-15 and the silence was deafening. Kid was savvy enough but just hadn't thought of it - CDs were obviously the best way to get things off the old computer.....

They are also referred to as a "Business Card CD." I recall seeing many in the distant past - back when we used CD's for nearly everything (think: back before USB became so popular.)

I don't know about 1999, but this one is from 2007.
I thought it contained a move, but in fact contains an interactive game, some pictures and movie trailers.
Had to use a laptop 'cause it will not work in a desktop PC type DVD drive.
