I'm new to SEO and have been learning it on the fly for my website. It's generating traffic, about 250 visits for about a month and a half that it's been up. When I look at google though on my site i'm around page 10. Can anyone give me any advice on what I can do to get closer to page 1? I've registered on lot's of directories, trying to get good quality backlinks in forums that I frequent but that's going slow because I don't want to post on sites where I can't provide something to the forum. I don't have to be on page 1 although that is a eventual goal, but I would like to see more progress on it then I have. Thanks

Well this is a very hard generalized question. There are many many many ways to get backlinks and you just have to be creative in the ways to get them. Remember the Page Rank of the page with your link decides how much weight your link carries. Keyword choice and on site seo is also one of the most important things you can do. With the proper keyword research and quality onsite SEO with a little bit of backlinking you can easily build quality targeted traffic to your website. On average I give my clients anywhere from 4,000-10,000 backlinks a week using some of my own methods to be able to blast with that many links with no negative effect. SEO is really a constant learning game and you just have to stay ahead of the wave.

What is the going price for SEO services? I have a marketing company hounding me to sign up for $139/month 12 month contract. Guarantee to keep me in the top 2 pages within 8 weeks from now. (sounds strange to me, to take up to 8 weeks)
