Website Overhaul

I completely overhauled my website this morning. I'm mostly looking for opinions on the content (particularly the services page(s)). I spent months designing and developing the site and when it came time to write the content I didn't really have anything.

-There are a few layout issues with IE6 and 7. I'll get to that soon.
-There are only a few testimonials but I'll have more once I get permission to use reviews from google and others (~20 reviews).

I created this site with nothing but free software. All it cost me was countless hours in front of my computer:). But now I finally feel confident to start selling web design as a service. Link is in my sig.

Nice colors and layout. Few observations that I had:

You would consider reinstalling Windows as an advanced repair but a desktop not powering on as a basic repair? It wouldn't be the other way around?

I also notice that in the section of the pc-tune up, you state that 'there is much that goes into the tuning up a computer but I won't bore you with the details'.....but you DO go on and state the other details.

Web Design Service: Although honesty is golden, I would NOT say "I don't have a lot of experience with web design' - I understand that you're offering web design services but at the same time, you're saying that you don't have a lot of experience doing it - so me, being a new customer, why would I still want to hire you to create my web page? Either leave out the web design section or get rid of that sentence, it actually works against you and not for you.

My two cents-:)

I like the blue/orange. No wait I REALLY like the blue/orange and grey.
Something about the frontpage bothers me and I cant even put my finger on it exactly. It just seems like there alotta empty space around- It may be because theres no wrapper or something separating the main content background from the actual background. Not a deal breaker because graphis and VERY clean and attention grabbing.

Yes. Reinstalling Windows is an advanced repair because its very time consuming backing up data and settings, installing software, setting up printers, etc. I don't just give it back to them once the install is finished. A desktop power issue (completely dead) is pretty simple to troubleshoot. 90% of the time its the PSU which is a 15 minute fix. And if not it's sometimes the power button (simple to test, just power it up with a flathead screwdriver using the jumpers), or possibly the motherboard.

Lol. Good point. I'll get rid of that last sentence...

I will consider rewording it but I'm just trying to build my portfolio at the moment. This website is the first I've done (after several revisions). I'm working on two others at the moment and once those are finished I'll have a small portfolio. I don't want clients thinking I'm a professional web designer because I'm not. Maybe I'll take that off my website and just inform them when I get calls? Thank you for taking the time to read all that!

Thank you very much! Yeah, everything is kind of just floating there huh? I think anything I did to try and fix it would just make things worse. I'm sure after a few months I'll get sick of this design and start working on a new one.:D (this is my 3rd or 4th website review thread lol).

Great looking site. I'm jealous :o

Copy could be better in places, but to be honest: most people will just be looking to get some idea of rates and the phone number.

So I do think you need to show some reassurance about pricing (a bit like you did on your front page with the fix-answer-help bit)

If I were you, I would change, your "I"s to "We"s. So instead of saying, "I don't just fix computers." Say, "We don't just fix computers." It sounds a heck of a lot more professional.

I like how well your services are layed out. And how everything is clean. That's good. Clean and simple presents well to customers. Great work. Mayne. ;)

your $79 computer tune up service mentions upgrading the RAM, but doesn't state that the actual RAM itself will be an additional cost

I'd get rid of the "bore you with the details" bit too

Thank you! I decided to use "I" because when I was using "we" a lot of potential clients were turned off when they found out its just me and my wife. Also, all my testimonials mention my name. Also...Its a picture of me right above that sentence. I'm doing my best to market myself and I've had good results from my website so far.

Good points. I think I'll redo that entire page. Clients don't care about any of that anyway. Clients care more about the results rather than the process. I think I'll redo some of the other service pages with that in mind.

I must say, The layout is great - and the colors work well. Very nice.
The index page looks and feels welcoming.
If I were in MT, and needed a PC fixed I would use the service.

Nice Job

I see that you made the changes that Skaterizme suggested, but this part "I am working at building my portfolio at the moment and I will give you very large discount if you help me complete that task."

To me, this seems like you are still saying that you don't have a lot of experience (which is fine; we all have our starting point).

So if you don't currently have the customer base to use in your portfolio (ie: examples of previous work) maybe you can create some web templates to use as examples. This will still show a potential customer your web design skills and if someone finds one that they like, it will save you time in the long run.

Just an idea :)

BTW: The site looks great!
