Just starting out and trying to get my head around linking sites.

I was wondering what are the best sites to link to to improve my rankings and how you'd go about doing it.

Any info would be massively appreciated.

If you want link backs, I would do a search for free business directories and put your website on every one of them.

It doesn't work like that. Google is much smarter than that now days. It needs to be natural links to YOU. A good way to do this is to guest post on related sites.
