Website help

I am starting to think that having a website would really help me out with my business, so I decided to start making one.

What I'm really looking for is something that is pretty simple, but yet looks professional.

The problem I am really having while doing this is that while I know HTML, some CSS and Javascript, I am horrible at designing it. I really want to get started but am not really having to much luck (maybe I'm being too hard on myself). Did you guys pay someone in order to design your site?

Do you guys have any tips about making a website for your business? I've already looked at some and I know all the information that I want on it. I guess maybe it's time to learn photoshop and illustrator a little bit better.

Also, are you guys in the yellow pages? I was thinking about getting a Yellow page ad, but wasn't sure how many people actually look in the yellow pages anymore. I'm in Michigan btw.

Learn how to use a CMS and buy the template you like from the thousands available, a good place to start if you are using Joomla is Rockethemes as they have fantastic instruction on everything including how to change the logos.

My advice, go simple.

While you can make a really fancy AND professional looking website, but if you try to go over the top you will have an awful looking site. On the other hand if you go simple, obviously not just one really long page, but a simple menu with easy to read pages, no one will look down on you for it.


I'm making a website right now for an artist/teacher who has specifically asked me for the simplest website that can do what he wants it to do, and I'm doing just that.

My website was designed by me. Just Google and get some ideas and make them your own. You'll see a lot of good ones and many crappy ones.

Okay, I'm going to look into some templates as examples, and try and see if I can get it all done. I'll also look into the Joomla and see what that's all about. I have a couple friends who are good at graphic design, and I think that's really my weak point.

I have decided that I am going to keep it simple. All of you guys seem to have some pretty nice sites. dhrandy, I really like your site. Nice job on the graphics and integrating it all together.

I'll keep you guys update on the progress, I hope to have it done within the next month for sure.

It doesn't take much to do a simple, yet nice site. Here is one I threw together from another site I'm working on. Just did a little editing.
