WD My Book HDD WD Black editon?

Could anyone confirm if the WD MY Book uses the Black edition HDD?

Probably not, but it may vary depending on My Book model. Only way to know for sure is by opening.

What's the part number printed on the case? They are usually Greens but I had a 4TB My Cloud a couple of weeks ago that used a WD40EFRX-68WT0N0 with a black label. Strangely, if you use the part number on this HP site, it says it's a Red, so I don't know how much faith I would put in that site to tell you.

They are slower and spin down to save power after a timeout period. Whenever you need to retrieve a file from the thing, it has to spin up again to be available - it adds a 5-second delay in opening a a file, I'd say. I put one of them in a computer as extra storage, and frankly, I regret it. Every time I need something I have to wait for it to wake up.

Not much mileage with the My Books. But I setup my FreeNAS with some Greens. 50%, 2 out of 4, failure rate to date (2 years). That was the end of my "saving a few bucks" on my own equipment phase.
