I am currently diagnosing a problem with the software title VirtualAccount Manager for a small company. They access this program through their server running Windows Small Business Server 2003. On one of their machines, however, they were having trouble with the program, so they gave me a call to attempt to fix it.

The problem is we are getting an "Error code 111: Cannot update the cursor" when starting the program up. Upon searching, it seems as though this is a read-only problem for the user. Another user is using the program from her workstation and it runs flawlessly.

So, I went ahead and set the appropriate permissions for the workstation in question on the server, but to no avail. The error message still persists. Likewise, I made sure the files they are trying to access are not marked as read only, which they are not. I'm not very familiar with Server 2003, so I was wondering if anyone else had this type of error before with either this program specifically or another program of the like and if so, what remedies were used to correct this. Any help would be much appreciated! Thanks!

hmm

If it is working fine on another mach the same files I would guess the problem lies in the workstation check firewalls av progs block lists and may just need to reinstall and config the prog on that workstation

The program was already reinstalled and reconfigured, but we're still getting the same error. Not to mention everything is set up exactly the same as the other workstation (the one that is running it with no problems). I'm looking into the AV programs, firewall and block list issues as well. Any other insight is much appreciated!

av progs

Along with checking them for blocks. Make sure there is no infection on the pc. Maybe run sys file checker . Also when you reinstalled the program did you remove all the reg entrys after uninstal and before reinstall ? You say both are configured the same does that mean they deploy there systems from an image? If so it may be time to rerun the image and save face. Get them back up and running again . In my exp by now the client is prolly getting frustrated and you may be as well. The worst thing is with all frustrated best bet is finish it fast. Before any more tention builds altho may not be the case but has been my exp.

Hope this is of some help

Did you run a registry cleanup after uninstalling? Did you check hidden folders for data files?

1) Remove related folders from C:\Documents and Settings\User Name\Application Data
2) Remove related folders from C:\Documents and Settings\User Name\Local Settings\Application Data

Uninstall again, do 1 and 2, then do a registry cleanup. Try installing again.

Just an update to this topic in which a solution has been found. It was a permissions problem. Apparently, the user in question belonged to a group created specifically for users of this program. It was merely deleted.. a simple addition of this user back into the group and everything worked well. They informed me that they had been tampering with permissions on the server before I even got involved, so how they pulled this off I have no idea. I merely compared a working user to the user that wasn't able to access the program, thus finding the underlying cause. Thanks to everyone for their help!
