Virtual dvd burner

I'm looking for some software that can emulate a dvd burner on a windows machine that can create iso files. Sort of like magicdisc does with dvd roms. I'm trying to create images of some system recovery discs without using up DVDs in the process. Does anyone know of any software that can do this?

Perhaps I should have been more clear, I need a program that creates a selectable dvd burner drive on the computer. The software used to create the recovery disc won't write to the hard drive, it will only select a dvd burner. All the tools mentioned can create images from within the program, but from I can tell, no create a virtual dvd burner that can be selected by other programs. Please correct me if I'm wrong about this.

Its been a while since I've used it but Virtual CD will allow you to create virtual DVD drives and much more. I seem to remember it has virtual burning capabilities as well.

http://www.virtualcd-online.com/ - you can download a trial version.

edit... just checked and yes it does have a virtual burner :)

My first response was IMGBurn... But I guess I've (we've) misunderstood.

Virtual Clone Drive is mentioned a couple of times but this only emulates a read-only drive. Nothing bad about VCD btw! Like ImgBurn I've been using VCD since errrr... forever. Imgburn + VCD = golden combo :)

Back on-topic: I too think Virtual CD is the way to go. Out of curiosity I just downloaded and installed the demo and it does perfectly what you ask: when creating a recovery disc you can burn it directly to the virtual drive.

What I don't understand: if creating a recovery disc is the only thing you want to do then a real dvd is a lot cheaper... Burn a copy to a DVD-RW, change it back to an iso and voilá. The DVD can be used again of course. This brings us back to ImgBurn :D

Unless you have larger plans than a recovery disc of course.

Has an option..changes the icon to red or something..but there's a burn option....pay for though but it's cheap.

I just downloaded the demo for Virtual CD and it worked! I know I can burn them to DVD-RWs and then create ISOs from there, but it's more efficient to burn them right to a hard drive. I'm willing to spend a few more dollars if it means one less thing for me to have to do manually. My time is money, and it's worth more then the program costs:D

Thanks everyone

 I looked all over their website and found nothing about a burn-to-virtual-drive-option in Virtual Clone Drive. I did find a thread where someone suggested adding this feature. They didn't seem very interested though.

If you're sure VCD has this function now (linked thread is from 2008) I'd like to know more about it.
