I have a customer who has a iFocus DVR hooked up to his surveillance system.
The model number is a DVR4A

What the customer wants is to be able to remotely view and control his surveillance system via his blackberry or laptop. Is this possible with this DVR model and if so can anyone give me some tips on how to do it?

Well after doing a quick search, it could be that the company that made the system does not have an iphone app for it. Besides the website has a copyright from 1999 to 2008 so I assume they are not in business (i could be wrong).

Does the DVR system have a web interface? If so then they might be able to access the system via the browser on the phone. The only problem is that some of those built in web interfaces like to use Active-X.. Now if thats the case then you might be out of luck since mobile browsers do not understand active-x..

Probably out of luck. THere might be an app that allows for access to cameras via credentials but just not sure for blackberry.

my guess: Best solution would to get him to use PDAnet or something to remote into a computer with the DVR software, and watch that way.

he currently owns the system it is one that someone gave him as payment about 3 years ago. The system looks as though it is only setup to run with a dialup modem although it has a connection for an Ethernet cable I tried plugging it directly into the router but was not able to access it by trying to go to the IP address it showed on screen.

It shows it has the option to use an iLink system but I'm not sure what it means other than what I've found online and the only two things I've found was a firewire cable and a software company by the name iLink Systems.

The best way out is to connect the video splitter which is best for surveillance connection. It is very much compatible to the blackberry and laptop.
