Using a Windows-to-Go drive to repair and diagnose offline OS

After being out of the scene for a while, I've been looking for a replacement for my old XP-Based PE bootable. I came across a new feature of Windows 8, called Windows to Go. It doesn't seem too magical, as it seems you can do the same thing with Windows 7. The big requirement is that you either use a USB Hard Drive, or a flash drive that shows up as a fixed disk (despite supposed rumors to the contrary, I never got a Removable USB drive to work).

Windows to Go is supposedly an Enterprise-only feature, but there are instructions, and programs, to do this from any version of Windows 8. Also, it needs to be configured to mount the computer's boot drive, as it doesn't by default.

Has anyone used one of these for PC repair? It doesn't look like a good PE replacement, but it looks like it can do some things better than a PE.

Thanks for the link. I checked it out, but decided not to add it to my toolkit as the author only included the pre-compiled ISO, not the files to update and compile with Winbuilder.
