I was reading a chapter of my text for a Grad school class I'm taking focusing on globalization. It was covering Thomas L. Friedmans 10 factors of flatening concerning the effects of globalization.

Anyhow, One of the flateners named in-sourcing described as "the deligation of a company's core operations to a subcontractor that specializes in that operation." One example they named was UPS employees doing laptop repairs for Toshiba and a team of certified UPS technicians doing on-site computer repair and maintenance. A quick google search didn't bring up much of anything except this artile http://money.cnn.com/magazines/business2/business2_archive/2004/07/01/374848/index.htm

The article is kind of outdated (July 2004). Just wondering if you guys have heard of them or seen them in action? I know Apple has to laptop mail in depots located in Memphis, TN and Houston, TX but these are Apple depots not UPS.

I heard about this thru the grapevine, I didnt believe it at the time, but stranger things have happened.

Found this posting on a Merchant Circle Questions page answering a question from a user about recommendations for where he could get his laptop fixed:

We have a FREE national program with The UPS Stores. Call 877-91FIXIT toll free (1-877-913-4948) to speak to a helpful technician.
They will give you expert advise and pricing over the phone for any of your computer or laptop needs.
We have three locations in San Diego County and a National Shipping program with The UPS Stores to safely and securely service your laptop.

No webpage listed. Sorta sounds like Gurus2Go and similar outfits.

[EDIT]Found the website of the poster here. No mention of UPS. I'm guessing that they have a UPS corporate account and if you call their toll-free number, they have you ship them your laptop on their account, fix it and ship it back to you.[/EDIT]
