Upgrading 100gb to 250 gb

Hi guys

I want to change the HDD on a laptop from a 100GB to a 250 GB. the plan is to create an image of the old HDD and just move this image onto the 250 Gb in a way that to the user everything looks the same, except that there is obviously more available disk space.

I have tried installing both the Acronis free version 8 and the trial version 11, but these will not install on the machine. This may be because the existing HDD is over 92% full. I am thinking of using Drive Image for this job.

Any thoughts?

Does Acronis give you an error message when it tries to install? 92% full still leaves plenty of space. Have you got a desktop machine you can install it on? Then you can get a 2.5" IDE to USB converter to plug the laptop hard drives into the desktop machine.

If you don't have a secondary computer you will want to use a live CD, like UBCD4Win which contains DriveImageXML. Either way you will need an adapter.
