We'd like to have a couple good quality adapters available at the shop for testing purposes.

We have a few cheapos laying around that we will use on occasion, but would really like to have a more reliable option on hand.

Any recommendations? What type do you use?

Adapting laptops to what?

LOL - I'm sure the OP is talking about universal power adapters.

Could be this, though:

The only problem I've run into, if the OP referring to AC adapters, is some OEM's have chips or some other method of identifying whether it's an OEM adapter or not. So the machine may not charge when it's powered up. But they have always charged when powered off.

We just ordered a couple of these.
I picked them since they seem to have all the bases covered. Dell & HP 7.0mm, the new Dell & HP 4.5mm, Lenovo round and rectangle, a couple really small ones for chromebooks and other small laptops, etc.

Last ones ordered are Westronix. They seem fine, just wish they had the better tip selection. It never hurts to have a couple different ones so you can cover older models.

That one I linked would be even better if it had the HP sleekbook tip, which has like 1/2 of a plastic sleeve on it.

These are the best universals I've ever used BY FAR:

Unfortunately the retractable cords SUCK. They break constantly. Thankfully it's easy to disassemble the retractable mechanism and make the cords normal. These are high quality and they have a tip for pretty much every laptop that's ever been made.

You do NOT want to cheap out with anything power related. The last thing you need is a shop fire. I always either buy OEM, or the highest quality equivalent I can when it comes to power related things like adapters.
