Hi

Well mine is due for renewal on 7th April, and i was with JLT Online (insurantz) and paying £144 last year but it has been bought our by Thistle insurance and they now want £212!

I need goods in transit, contents and liability

just wondering what companies my fellow UK techs use, and if you have any recommendations?

Thanks

James

Hi James, I was with Insurantz for the past couple of years also. I also received a letter from Thistle, asking for the exact same quote as you have been 'offered'.

My insurance runs out in a couple of days, so need to get it sorted pretty damn soon, if not quicker.

I'll keep this thread updated with my search(es) if thats ok with you. Could also prove helpful to other UK techs.

So far I have the following quotes.

Via simply business
Hiscox £257.79

via money supermarket
hiscox £234.10

direct Line - £702.06

Hiscox themselves - £495.46 - does not include stock!!.

awaiting further quotes.

Something I'm interested in hearing about too lol.

What figures are you entering to get a quote that low?, or is it your location which is really helping.

Think mine was around £200 with simply business which includes most things, I don't want to dicusss exactly what policy I have on a public forum though but do feel free to PM me. Maybe this would have been better in tech only?

Hi

Cadishead - yep all good!

I have rang a few and hiscox at e min seems to be the best at around £233

The thing that bothers me about thistle, is that they have changed my insured business type to computer consultant which is an office policy, not correct (according to hiscox) and its office based insurance ( I'm covered for a freezer defrosting and money in a safe ffs)

I think around £230/250 is going to be the norm for a mobile tech with an office/ work area

I had that quote based on 10k contents

3k stock equipment etc
4k for clients machines (that's if bench was full of kit)
3k for my own machines and server

2,000000 liability

£2500 transit BUT BE SURE TO CHECK hiscox advised me that I can't have goods in transit, as they are not my goods to sell etc, they are clients machines, so have to be insured as electronics equipment - most goods in transit DON'T cover mobiles, laptops and pcs

Have a few more to call tomorrow but looking like hiscox

Also that doesn't have indemnity, which I'm not sure i need, as technically covered by liability insurance?

I'm insured via 'Ageas' through Simply Business. Have been for years, covers me for in transit, at my address and people's homes.

Up to £1,000,000. You can check out my policy onthe site, it's at the bottom of the index page

Thanks for the info Ian.

I have just redone my quote with simply, and can now get it down to £210.39. Again with Hiscox. But this figure does not include any stock.

The cheapest with stock option is Glenham at £294.

Ageas will not insure me.

Also just noticed with simply. If you choose to buy, they automatically add on legal expense cover at £60.00. You can pay via DD over 10 months.

If you should choose to remove the legal expense, you cannot pay via DD. Now that isn't on surely.

Well this is interesting!

im not bothered about hiscox, because i do want goods in transit. so now need to read the terms of the aeges one

just to confirm I went with aeges,

Simply business rang me, and i got it for £153 in the end, and yes had to pay up front

Aparantly, with simply, it has to be over £250 to be able to do instalments

Hope you all sort yours out!

PS, if you use this link when going with Simply Business, we will both get £25 after having the policy for 30 days!

Glad you got it sorted. Simply business are great, as I said, been with them for years and the renewal does get significantly lower. Though i've made no claims.
