Touchpad not working Asus laptop

I was given a few Laptops on some of them Touchpads not working I guess the solution is to replace the touchpad if its a really good laptop
is this the typical fix or can it be something easier, pretty sure its not a driver issue they always work both Asus laptops
I know what you are going to say this is why they were given just don't like to junk anything if it can be fixed
 
I always try them with Linux to eliminate the possibility of a software issue. But once it's known to be hardware, yes, the fix is to replace the touchpad. How easy that is depends on the laptop.
 
Also check the hotkey for disabling/enabling the touchpad. Apart from the battery swelling beneath it, touch pad failures are quite rare in my experience. I think I've only had to replace a touchpad once or twice in 20 years.
