I have a Toshiba laptop (Satellite M45-S2692). My battery won't charge. It stopped charging randomly a few months back. I've just been running it on AC power since then. I've tried replacing the battery with one I know works (from my friend's computer, same model), I've replaced the DC jack with a new one, and I've updated everything on my computer from Toshiba's website (BIOS, Power software, etc.).

What else could possibly be the problem?

The charing circuitry on laptops is in the motherboard. I wouldn't recommend changing it yourself unless you have experience with working on laptops.

Yes, I do have experience working on laptops. I figured it would probably be the motherboard. Do I need to replace the entire motherboard or is there a way I can do a repair job on the one I have?

motherboard repairs is not my specialty so maybe someone else can give you a better anwser. You have to remember that even if you can unsolder or whatever the charging circuitry then you would have to find someone that sold the part to replace it with, which is always only going to be the manufacturer. Its normally easier to just find a cheap board online and do the 20 min replacement.
