Today *did* start differently for Dianne (my better half) and myself, but in a positive way.
Our friends have been trying to get us to go to their house to watch 'Hockey Night in Canada' for over 2 years, but for one reason or another, our schedules never worked out.
Now, finally everything seemed to line-up, and we were going to drive over tonight to see the Boston Bruins and Toronto Maple Leafs in the playoffs.
They happen to live about 2 Km from us literally around the corner from Yonge and Finch.
Then, around 1:30 pm this afternoon, this horrendous Van attack occurred leaving at least 10 dead and 15 injured.
Four hours later and our female friend mentioned above would have been walking home after work from the subway exit where the attack started.
Five hours later and her husband would have been walking a block south and in the path of the Van while bringing us wings from a restaurant.
Or, perhaps I would have walked with him to keep him company.
As it turns out, I have met one of the arresting officers many times at social events unrelated to his job.
These tragedies always seem to happen in someone else's country ... someone else's city.
.... Until now.
We are physically OK but emotional wrecks.
Tomorrow, or when the victim and injured list is released, we hope to not recognize any of the names.
