To IPv6 or not to IPv6?

Reason for asking is that my ISP will not provide static IPv4 addresses to home accounts. I will not pay what it costs for a business account at my home. Since IPv6 will not run out of addresses, what prevents ISPs from giving out IPv6 static addresses? I would be inclined to study up on IPv6 if I could actually use it.

I don't know of anyone using IPv6 yet. How about here on TN? How many use IPv6?

Thanks,

I have some customers who have ATT they get an IPv6 and IPv4 public addresses. Other than that no one is using IPv6 on internal networks. I'm not sure when I'll ever setup an IPv6 network.

Do you know if your ISP even has IPv6 available yet?

We are IPv6 ready, so to speak... We haven't actually switched over yet.
We'll be moving to IPv6 as soon as we can though. IPv4 addresses are getting ludicrously expensive now that they are running out.
We're also a WISP and provide internet service, so financially, it's pushing us to switch.

My ISP has been promising v6 capabilities for a decade and a half now... I won't v6 until I can do everything with v6. If you have v4 AND v6, the machine doens't know which one to use, you're literally doubling your Ethernet frame count. With gigabit internet connections, that's a great way to find yourself capping out at 500mbit. Pick a protocol...

we used ipv6 for a couple of our management networks and it was ok. seems like no one is as ready as they would like us to believe.
