Client calls me because her Parallels in her 11 year old mac is dying. She runs a windows property management app inside Parallels in her Mac. Login and basically the Mac feels like the HD is dying. Inconsistent boot times, Parallels runs then crashes, mac runs like garbage.

I tell her that since her Mac is 11 years old it's probably time to start shopping for a new computer. I tell her that since her main program is Windows based she can probably get a top spec W10 PC for about $900. She says, "Well I LOVE MAC!". I ask, "Why do you love Mac when your business runs off a PC only app?" she says, "I don't know I just LOVE MACS!".

So over the weekend she goes and buys a $2000, BASIC MAC. Were talking 8GB Ram, 1TB Fusion, Intel i5, literally BASELINE.

The she calls me because she needs a transfer which includes a Time Machine restore, an upgrade from Parallels 11 to Parallels 15, a fresh install of W10 since W7 is done.

And the best part? She says shes short on Cash and she asks me for a discount on my labor. LOL I'm so over people.

That is how you get Expo'd into a $800 bill lady, Thank you.

For $2k She coulda gotten an i9, 1TB NVme SSD, 32GB Ram, and had enough money left over to buy a Macbook Air. F'n Sheeple

Short on cash lmao...wow. I just spoke with a mac user earlier this week. Older guy has had this mac for over 15 years he claims. So of course all the programs are anciently old too. Runs some quickbooks and some other programs etc. He was a nice guy and all but I think he was shocked that his old programs would all have to be updated to run on a new mac. So he basically thought he would start to budget for a new one but I gotta feeling he's just going to run this one until it's completely dead and then expect me or another tech to perform a miracle on it. Who knows but I told him the sooner the better for replacement before it fails.

You mean like every parent alive that shows up?

All I get are complaints when I ask for $600 for a desktop, and I mean a complete setup that would take their kids from Elementary School to College... and that's too much money. But they're all walking around with $1000 cracked screens in their pockets, and those same kids have 2-3 game consoles at home too.

People have money, they're just incredibly stupid about how they spend it.

Yeah, and it's not just home users.

I'm in the middle of quoting a business client for a new server and the directors are questioning £3,000-£3,500 hardware costs as if it's going to bankrupt their business.

Meanwhile, they both have £1,500+ MacBook Pro's and iPhone's provided by the company.

Yep and that's why she got an $800 bill for probably 3.5 hours of labor.

LOL. And to think she could have gotten a better COMPUTER for the cost of the repair. Like, a whole freaking computer. Whatever. It's her choice. I deal with this sort of crap on a daily basis and have learned not to feel guilty about it. It's not my fault that people are stupid and make stupid decisions.
