Thermal Paste goes on the OTHER side

lol that has made my day bryce could you elaborate on this story it seems to be one worth listening to

lol wow!

is this from one of ur customers...what did they say.."My computer doesnt work i think it needs to be reformated" :P

i if that pc was powered up i doubt that cpu is much good any more id ask the customer who did this because if it was some 14 year old untrained tech id be pretty ****** and would sugest that i pass my bill on to him or his parents as opposed to the customer then again i may be told to mind my own buisness lol

I have no idea what the story is. I found the picture online a couple of days ago.

I can imagine how it happened though:

"You need to put thermal paste on the CPU before you put the heatsink on"
"Oh, ok"

I could be a joke, if someone has a dead motherboard and spare cpu or whatever, but still it's funny. We could have gone from the tech support nightmares in text format to a new media with pictures! :)

It could be dielectric grease to keep out condensation when using phase change cooling. I did it on mine a year or so ago :)

The black block on the right of the picture also suggests the guy is using phase change cooling, like a Prometia Mach 2.

Yo two had to go and ruin our fun? Though I am sure we can all rest easy knowing somewhere someone really has done what we all initially thought.

I'll give myself a 14 day ban for ruining it :( (Abe - you're getting 30 days)

Worse. I ordered a new replacement Mobo for a customer and it came in with thermal paste all over the socket. Hmmm. New? RMA'd it right quick.

Whoa! where was that from? I bet it was overclockers.co.uk :p

Sorry, I can't remember now. It was the only place that I could find this particular MB and it was on the west coast. I have the records somewhere, but this was a couple of years ago.
