Hi,

Does anyone know what software The TechGuys (PC World) use for their PC Health Checks. The reason I ask is they produce a html report of the computer specs, what has been done etc. and I would like something to do the same. Before I start doing my own, I wondered if there is anything that does this sort of thing?

Thanks,
Aaron

Well, thanks to all the replies I found a copy.

There doesn't seem to be anything special on there, I couldn't get the Eurosoft PC-Check to work as it creates a floppy disk, and I don't have a floppy drive. Webroot System Analyzer looks good, but doesn't seem to be available to download anywhere.

I have found that The TechGuys use SupportSofts Sytem Tune-up, which again I can't find a download for, they have an on-line scanner though.

What I guess I am looking for out of this, is something like the report they provide that shows the system information, security information, spyware removed, files cleaned etc.

At the moment, I just tell the customer "I have removed x amount of spyware", it would be good to show them what it was etc.

You are correct.

At the moment, I just tell the customer "I have removed x amount of spyware", it would be good to show them what it was etc.

I agree with you. That would be nice because it gives you a bit more credibility. But if you remove viruses with one program and spyware with another and then perform system maintenance with yet another program, how is 1 program going to keep track of it?

I think what we may have to do is create a file ourselves to use.

Does anybody have a better idea?

*** FIRST POSTER ALERT ***

HI guys,

I've been following this thread for a while and I'm just wondering if there's any update. Like most people I use different software to do a PC Healthcheck. But I do really like the TechGuys report.

It's the little details like that which makes customers think they are more professional than us.

If you can't find out by Saturday i'll tell you.
(I'm off till then)
I work as a TechGuy and i remember the software called Soft*****
I forgotten what it says when i run the software.

It is made by either the Geek Squad or is made by the company who done theirs.

Dead handy tool. Install the server software on Store machine, that gets all the updates for its spyware and antivirus program. You create a "customer details" using a form online that creates a profile on the server software. Plug in a USB stick, click download and it updates the USB stick with the customer details, what type of machine it is, how many healthchecks they've had before. Take USB to customs PC. It installs part software on their machine. It take two clicks, and it automatically does everything from cleaning temp, to telling you how uptodate your antivirus/firewall/spyware programs are, gives you recomendations on how to update your PC and shows what spyware and virus have been removed.

It saves a PC report on their desktop telling exactly what's been done.

time code good news i am already working on a tech cd so you wont have to build one yourseld me and gunslinger are working on it search tech cd in the forums its all there

The TechGuys Toolkit is powered by SupportSoft. The two main scans it runs are PCTools Spyware Doctor and Symantec Antivirus. It also performs a few system tweaks and the usual temp file clearout. I was fortunate enough that a friend who used to work as a Techguy let me have a peak at the software at the time I was planning my own healthcheck service. I didn't want it so that I could use it, but I wanted to see exactly what was done to make sure my service was more conclusive than theirs. As has already been mentioned the most impressive looking part is the report file at the end. I live in hope that somebody with programming skills will create a form generator that can grab info from the various log files and allow customer details to be entered. At the moment I print a checklist out as to the tasks I have performed but a report would be so much more professional looking.

Ummm, yeah... Do you realize that my last post in this thread was back in August of last year? That was not a recent question.

I've actually been following your thread a bit and I'm excited to see the CD that you guys are working on. If you need it, I may be able to act as a mirror to host the CD for download. **Note: That is to be a mirror. Not host the entire thing.
