Synology + Simply Accounting

I have a client with a "server" running exchange and it runs like garbage. It's not really a server, it's a mishmashed p.c. with a raid card.

They are small, I want to move their email to the cloud and replace the machine. They only need file shares, and simply accounting. Does anyone know if synology NAS drives will work the the simply accounting connection manager?

Right now they have the database on the server and the connection manager on the server. Has anyone tried putting the simply accounting connection manager on a synology nas?

I don't know of any package SAGE has created for the Synology devices.
In theory, I suppose you could use iscsi, but you would be setting yourself up for more of a headache than what it is worth - even if it succeeds.

[EDIT]
Quite a few inexpensive options using a Thinkserver or Microserver with WHS for instance.
Doesn't SAGE have a Linux version of the CM?
Hrm...

I've only installed it on Windows Servers.....although I recall a certain version designed for a couple of *nix distros. NAS units I've seen are so proprietary even if based on *nix, you have no way to install anything except in their app store. So I'm going to say "No".

I suppose you could install simply acct on the workstations and share the database. However I would NOT rely on the synology box only. You would still need that backed up.

stick with an entry level server. keep the database on it. keep a small ad setup for folder redirection.

What type of business is this client?

I would probably lean towards marley1's statement and get an entry level server. If that is all that it is doing, it will run trouble-free for years.

Dell is making a tiny little server that looks a lot like the HP microserver machine. I am not sure of its OS capabilities though. So you might be able to have a "hopped up NAS" in that regard.
