Switch to 184 pin RAM, now no video

stuff like this drives me crazy, I went into the bios and set it to optimal settings, 4X AGP, put one stick of pc2100 in and still no go, funny I don't get any beeps, I don't hear it booting though, just fan running, must be something else too.

Can you hear the HD booting the OS?

Ok, I went and looked up the MB users guide. On page eight it goes over the jumper settings for settting up the ram for either ddr or sdram. You might need to check your jumper settings and see if that is the issue. I found the manual here:
Go all the way down to the bottom, you will see the second download that is the full manual (ignore the usb update information).

Hey Flyingbull you did it!!!! I downloaded the manual and pulled the jumper and ta-da!-that was it!! Thanks so much for you help! Now I will be able to plunk the old 168 pin into someone else's ancient pc (they can't afford to buy and really need it)! You did a good deed, I don't know where I'd be without this board!!:D

I'm glad that worked out!

Ell, I'm glad that worked out for you. This is a great board! I have been reading for a long time before I finally started posting - and I have had help here lots of times.

Props to Bull for going the extra mile to solve your problem.

Of course you know that DDR is much, much cheaper than SDRAM, right? Maybe tell your friend to give the SDRAM back when he's done, it'd be worth much more on resale.....

I wonder why that is? Just because its hard to come by? My old desktop appears to run faster with 512mb of the ddr pc3200 in it now than the 512 sdram.

As a very general rule - the older the memory, the more expensive. To get 4GB of RAM for a new machine costs less than 15% of what it would cost to buy 4GB of SDram.

Why? Not sure, but the Keynsian law of Economics regarding supply and demand comes to mind....
