Has anyone here switched from logmein rescue? After 3 years I'm just tired of the monthly fee. Plus I find myself doing less remote support now a days.

Im looking to hear from someone that switched to another product. What did you switch to? How does it compare?

I think Lisa/CallThatGirl switched from LogMeIn Rescue to Instant Housecall a while back. She might have some insight.

We use ScreenConnect and it works really well for us. No monthly fees like LogMeIn, but you need to host it yourself.

I switched from LMIR to Sceenconnect.
A friend of mine switched to IHC.
Both of us are happy.
I purchased 3 licenses of SC for under $900 and that was well over a year ago. Just thinking about what I paid for LMIR gives me shivers. :p

Switched from Rescue to Instant Housecall. It's been a good move.

How are you guys paying for Instant Housecall? Doing the monthly, yearly, or did you buy the lifetime?

When i read Call That Girl's remote support book, i looked into LMIR, and i was shocked at the price, immediately i looked at the list of others. I decided to use ScreenConnect for my business, the license is cheap in comparison, and they give you a major discount after the year is up to apply to upgrading to the latest version after your one year of upgrades is over.

so far any question i've had for SC they have answered in less than a day, and it has all the features (aside from D7 built in) that i could need.

only downside is you have to host it yourself, however i have not had any issue with that, i added a subdomain to my website, forwarded that to my no-ip dynamic host, and it forwards to a dedicated office desktop, so far no connectivity issues with clients.

solid product, look into it. i havent tried or looked into IHC but it seems to be another highly praised product here.

sorry for the long post!

I've always come back to LMIR because I like that it's browser-based and I like having multiple tabbed sessions. Xander also has a really nice post in this forum that ranks support tools. The 3rd edition of my book doesn't make a formal product recommendation, but it does include a deal from Instant Housecall and I still support buying "local".

Maybe this is my lack of knowledge, but logmein rescue seems to handle UAC horribly. I always have to have the client click on UAC prompts, as I can't see them. Is this normal or am I missing a setting?

When getting in a vista/xp or 8 machine, you have to click on the UAC in LMIR when logging in. Then they have to allow it. I hate UAC and sometimes turn it off on the clients computers as they hate it too. I always ask them if they hate it.

Works ok for me still.

Here is one thing I love about UAC in LMIR, I know I'm getting in an XP computer LOL. And know what to expect before the visit.

I've never had a problem with uac and teamviewer. I've been happy with teamviewer 7. I skipped version 8 for now, maybe upgrade to 9 whenever that comes out.

Yeah you have to restart it as a system service. The option to do that will be available on the main screen once you connect to the PC.
