Static vs. Desktop

Doc,

You're hilarious! I've completed my assignment but found your post on technibble regarding his comment to be at the top of the search results lol.

I knew there was something I forgot to ask my friend, which was about that very thing:
"charges beneath the feet". My friend believes that he knows his stuff but lacks the knowledge of how to explain it lol.

Thank you, thank you... I'm here all night! :applause:

I'm sure in his native language he makes perfect sense. There's definitely something lost in translation though, and I think phaZed is right that, due to the language barrier, some of the advice he is giving could be easily misunderstood and potentially dangerous.

Kinda what I think too, he's not stupid by any means, but some of the things he has stated fly in the face of current wiring practices that are in place for exactly the reason of static electricity. Trying to convince anyone that a proper ground doesn't do anything to protect against static discharge is, for lack of a better word, ridiculous... regardless of what theory you hold as to what is happening when a discharge occurs. I guess we should simply abandon anti-static bags, wrist-straps and rubber floor mats, because the charge is "under the feet" and those things don't help. Regardless of the problem, a language barrier or lack of knowledge.. the problem remains that when others read his posts they are poorly constructed in which leads the reader to an incorrect conclusion.

I can agree with the language barrier. However, I think he has two of them, one being an actual "language" barrier and the other from being a scientist ('tis what we call engineers 'round these parts lol).

..... And how many of us ran that google search. I restrained myself for, ooh, 20 seconds. ;)

I'm wary of any member who has no or little detail in their profile.

Hi, DocGreen's girlfriend here...

Humidity or lack thereof is NOT an issue in our basement. There is MORE than enough humidity. There is a lovely patch of mold we are fighting as proof of humidity. I'm going to guess this is a wiring issue and a personality issue since Doc is so damn electric. :p

While rewiring and checking all circuits you might as well go ahead put a good ground to earth ground on the Bakers Rack. An extra ground never hurts! I hate Static Electricity! It shows no mercy to computer equipment!
