I got a bunch of Sonic Wall TZ-180 with a recent eBay order for a very low price (I think about $4).

They use a sorta rectangular plug style. What I'm wondering if anyone can tell me which connection is the positive? I already opened them up and the polarity is not silk screened on the PCB. I was simply going to attach my own connector via a wire to each PCB trace. Easy to do, easy to clean up in case I want to sell or give away etc. I just need to know where positive is so I don't blow it up.

I already replaced a bad cap in one. :) 470uF 16V, very weird it went bad, but I suspect the original PSU was likely not good, or just luck.

The positive is the one by the clip that holds the connection in. The one with the two champfered corners. The negative is square.

Oh, and the reason you got them for $4 is that is a long-discontinued model, and those units have probably been used for a "secure upgrade" deal - you get a break on the licensing for a new unit if you trade-up from an old unit. This process blacklists the serial number of the old unit so it can't be re-licensed.

They will still function as (basic) firewalls with whatever old firmware is on there, but you can't add any new services. They will hold up a vpn tunnel just fine. Ok for experimenting & learning the layout of their settings & such, but don't give/sell them to clients.
