Got a 2018 Ford Fusion with synthetic leather seats. According to Gtechniq, there's no point in using leather conditioner because it will not be absorbed by the fake leather. They sell a leather guard that protects against UV rays and other stuff. Would it be fine to not protect my leather at all or do I need a protector to protect against sun damage?

That stuff likely won't hurt your "pleather" but it may not be as effective as a vinyl/fake leather conditioner made for that purpose. The pleather isn't going to "soak up" the oil like leather would and will likely wipe off on your clothes (non-noticeable) after a few uses- removing the UV coating.

Many pleathers have UV protected dyes and materials already baked in... though protecting it further is never bad.

I would think you would need a protector designed for the material used. Obviously a fake leather would not benefit and could even be damaged by a product designed for real organic leather. 'Bout as useful as spraying a Rust protector on it. LOL

Never heard of that stuff @Appletax. I've always used Lexol for all leathers. As @nlinecomputers said you need to use something made for the material at hand. See what the stuff they sell is made of. I'm sure there's other sources. But I'd bet that you don't need anything.

My new car has this stuff as well. I found this article to be informative, since it is not written by someone selling a particular product. I have a Toyota, and here is a thread on the Maguiar's forum about that - their rep basically said don't use any of our products on it, just mild soap and water. Kinda makes me respect Maguiar's a bit more.
