Have a big client that has brought in a lot of business. He wants me to set up a wireless security system. I have worked little with this stuff but after a little googling have no found a good place that reviews them.

he needs 5 wireless cameras(4 for outside and one in the front enterance way.)
a standalone DVR, remote monitoring and would like to be able to watch straight on his TV. It seems like most of this is standard even on the low budget ones. Just and to fine a good one at a good price.

Any Thoughts? thanks in advance.

I've have good luck with the Nuvico DVR's. Don't forget your going to need power for the wireless camera's

i was thinking about that. its a two story house. any suggestions on powering? I know a cord out the window would be ok with him, but i still want be nice any better looking suggestions?

There was a guy here that was damn good at security, I cant remember his name but he helped me with my first camera job.

Why not use a Power-over-Ethernet switch and get your power from your UTP/STP cables, if you need to pull power cables anyway?

Check the state that you are going to do the install in. In some states it is a felony to install security cameras at a place of business unless you are licenced to do it.

Along with this, better make damn sure that any wiring is done to residential code, and that you have REALLY good insurance and bonding, in the event that the place is broken in to, and everything does not operate perfectly. Not sure it's something I'd want to get involved in with little to no experience.

I'd refer to a local alarm company that has experience and training in this.

Build a relationship with them....you'll get referrals from them. I just picked up a 3x location package store chain as a client, referral from a local alarm system company I know and pass business to.

Very carefully check your local laws, it may be illegal to even recommend someone else to do the install.

wow... had no idea their was so much legal stuff involved in camera installation. Why so much with simple home camera install. I mean you can buy them at staples.

All I got to say is please for the love of god make sure they get decent quality cameras. I am so tired of seeing those security camera pictures posted on news websites that have less detail than my first intel webcam:

???
I've never heard of anything working against being able to give referrals.

Yeah very odd, I really don't think there'd be a problem referring someone to do the work. I mean if you honestly can't do it, what are you going to do? It would be poor service to just leave your client in the dark and tell them "I dunno, go find someone yourself."

It's perfectly legal for the end user to install their own gear in most places. The legal restrictions tend to be tight on other people installing because you really don't want just anyone having the details on exactly how your security system is set up.

When our shop started getting into security stuff we ran into this. Without proper licencing, we could legally sell cams and DVRs, but could not perform / advise on installs or refer to other installers. It seems pretty dumb that we couldn't send customers to a reputable installer, but we were advised by the licencing agency that doing so could result in jail time.
