screen or motherboard

I have a sony Vaio VGN-FE31Z in for repair. The screen is very fuzzy and after a few seconds it flickers and then disappears.

I get no external monitor from it, so thinking it might be the motherboard but just wanted to know if someone else has seen this before

If you have more than one monitor try connecting to them. Some monitors will not display output from a laptop due to resolution and frequency.

As to the blur, is it the same when in the BIOS ?

If you have another screen you can try in it, try that first. I had a computer I was about to write off as a motherboard problem with weird video issues but I swapped the LCD out for a used on from the dungeon as a final test and it solved all the issues. You might also poke around at the LCD cable and the connectors there and make sure its not a loose connection or broken cable.

I will try another monitor and check the cables again but not got a screen to fit it.

just a quick update, got a replacement screen at it was faulty as I got no image, then got it replaced and the fault is the same, a fuzzy screen so I have now to quote for a replacement motherboard as I tried moving the cab;e and it made no difference.
