[WARNING] Scammers sure like Contact forms on our websites

I know the educational system in Florida is a bit suspect, but you would think the procurement department at a state university would have slightly better command of the English language. ;)

BTW does ANYBODY ever fall for that stuff? I get them too - I'm sure all of us do. What businessperson is going to believe such a poorly worded and unlikely request?

Hmm that last one seems to be a TOR exit node. That one almost seems like maybe someone here is messing with you.

maybe the person has a drinking problem and it is the real deal. At least it is computer related scam. I have been getting a lot of XXX submission on my websites contact form. I feel hurt they should try at least if they are going to scam me. Put some effort into your craft. Wow me.

I just ignore them if it is not local. Then if it is local I will practice due diligence. Looking for high-end parts or a bunch of full computers is a red flag for me.

When we had a contact form here are a couple I got:

No not looking to do business with out of state companies.

Maybe because you called from a robodialer or your number had no caller ID. I reject all calls without caller ID, ones that the caller ID starts with say V0406123123123124124124, or any random number with a city, state name on it like "Small Ass Town of 100 people all the way across the state". These telemarketers and scammers are relentless. Plus we already use a data recovery company.

Ok "VOIP Experts" from someones gmail. No thanks.

Edit: Example of the "V" caller ID:

V4031149450051346987
4 - April
03 - The Third
1149 - Their Time 1 hr ahead so East coast
The rest- IDK

V4030722110076396129 4/03 7:22 (was 9:22 so they are West Coast)

Every call I see the V string I hang up.

Is there a way to build the contact form to prevent or at least disincentivize this? I assumed it was all being done by bots, but maybe it really is individuals googling computer repair companies and manually completing the contact forms?

I sort of want to put in a challenge question or something (e.g. What coin has a portrait of the 16tth president?), but that would probably stump some percentage of real customers...

Add google reCAPTCHA on form to cut bots out.
