Samsung Solid State Drive

They sound like a step in the right direction to me. Hopefully the prices will drop considerably in the next couple of years.

I love the idea of a truly silent PC too :D

I actually just heard about this today but haven't had time to research it yet. sounds like a great idea, but from what I saw the price is crazy right now. like you said simmy, give it some time and I think it will really take off.

Ive worked on a few solid state drives. They are incredibly fast, especially at booting. They are also very quite. Not much else to say about them. I didnt really notice anything else different about working with them.

I would say thats a good thing. If they want it to take off, they would want it to work like any other drive out there. They are pretty expensive but give it a year or so and I bet they come down considerably. I don't know how they would have a totally quiet PC. It would be awesome if they could but if anything the processor will always need a fan. The faster they make them the more heat they generate.

I notice they seem to be a prompted upgrade on blade servers which makes sense as they will be quite and fast and I suspect as cooler or cooler then thier non solid state counter part. I believe they have them in up around 40GB just they might not be commercially avialable.

Liquid cooling for the CPU and GPU, silent power supply (many exist,) solid state drives. Should be pretty quite?

Since we are side tracked already on the subject of liquid cooling I have had some people I know use it and it worked great before it failed. These were on over clocked PCs and the failed was a water block or something that ended the flow of the liquid. The result was PC ashes so I have been somewhat afriad to give it a go. I also thought they were more expensive and my latest machine has 1x 80mm(front) 3x 60mm(back) the CPU has I think an 80mm and the PS I believe has an 80mm in it would have to check. With all those fans this thing is amazingly quiet my laptop is over 3 years old and louder than it and my PS3 is also louder. I can barely sleep with the laptop or PS3 on but I can sleep just fine with the Media Center on. In the end I have yet to find a need to go through all the steps to make it quieter even for my loudest machine my old desktop which had a CPU fan that ran at 35 decibel(sp?). Enough rambling here is the biggest solid state drive I could find for sale http://www.newegg.com/Product/ProductList.aspx?Submit=ENE&N=2013240636+1421430849&name=128GB a 128GB so they are large enough to me in terms of capacity but price is on the insane side there but imagine a nice raid with a few of those.
