Not sure what to think about this. From what I understand it is optional and opt-in and police can't view un-shared videos without requesting them but reading comments in hacker news it sounds like police are finding out who has ring devices and letting them know it's a good idea they sign up for it. I also saw this guy's comments about it.

It seems like it can be helpful to solve crimes, but yet again at the expense of your privacy. I'm less likely to ever buy any ring products after reading this though.
