Some interesting devices I just came across for troublesome connections:

ResetPlug

That one looks good, though maybe overpriced (an amusing review) This one less so:

In my opinion if you're having to reset your device DAILY, it's done. I'd almost wonder if that thing would just hasten the death of whatever is plugged into it.

Anyway, regarding the first device, I'm tempted to get that for my mother-in-law that's on the other side of the country. Once in a while something happens and it goes out (not too often, and the router is a good one I installed). But I can't just walk over and fix it, and just like that article said, 9 times out of 10 a power cycle DOES fix it. But she's 95 and truly cannot start pulling cords--she can barely hear me on the phone as it is--and her neighbors are almost as old and can't mess with it either. Do I feel like paying a tech $70 an hour to drive over and just do a power cycle? If it prevents that situation even once it's paid for itself.

I use Christmas Tree Timers... $10 and I have power cycling occur at 3 AM each day for my "special" locations.
